The People of the Church
My theme was based on my religious trauma and others’ common religious trauma. The focus is on the corruption and unethical behaviors of the church that ironically worshipped goodness. Lighting and color schemes are dramatic, as if they are visual representations of themes of evil, depression, or simply sin. With each piece, I explored different media to express my theme, switching from colored pencil and markers to louder media like oils, while incorporating the original bold color motif. Each piece of work incorporates different values, specifically contrast, the rule of thirds, and hatching. Monotones are used to emphasize emotion and dark vs. light.

2020 In Months
My theme was inspired by the year 2020 and the common mishaps that most people had to go through, such as being stuck in quarantine, witnessing an election, and hobbies that many began. The investigation is characterized by a collection of scenes that happened in daily life, shown by a room was built with small props to describe something that a person in 2020 would do besides self-isolate. Using air-dry clay and paint, my pieces evolved by incorporating use of feathers, felt, and cloth.
